Creating Mindfulness Around Mindless Actions to Promote Healing
“Your body started breathing the moment you were born”
Just Breathe. A message that immediately begins the replay of Breathe by Anna Nalick in one’s mind. A message that manages to find its way into our consciousness when things get tough. A message that, when put to action, can aid the healing process immensely.
Breathwork is more than the inhale and the exhale. It is more than the unconscious action that is our breath. In definition, it is conscious, controlled breathing explicitly done for relaxation, meditation, or therapeutic purposes. The best part? There is no right or wrong way to do it, and you can do it anywhere.
This practice has the power to take one out of their rational mind and bring them into their emotional body. The rhythmic breaths can aid us in moving and releasing trapped emotions and energies. This release can assist in healing of all kinds – emotional, physical, and otherwise. It is a practice unique to each person and can be customized based on what one needs.
Oftentimes breathwork can feel more supported when following a guided meditation. We have added a meditation below led by Biet Simkin (@guidedbybiet) as an excellent place for you to dip your toes into the practice of using your breath to heal all that is.
“Your body started breathing the moment you were born. That instant holds all your life’s bliss, grief, tears, connection, and a reckoning with your death. When you take these breaths with me, you come back to that holding. You relax and release.” -Biet Simkin
