The Best Bone Broth You Can Buy

This nourishing elixir has been around for centuries. It’s rich in flavor and health experts have long praised the many benefits of bone broth for your immune system. Some even go so far as referring to it as “liquid gold”. Since St. Patty’s Day is the Feast of Saint Patrick, we’re adding this liquid gold to a nourishing, green recipe.

Traditionally bone broth is made by boiling animal bones such as chicken, duck, beef, oxtail, or even fish, along with vegetables like carrots, onions, and celery for 8-10 hours. According to fertility expert and founder of The Yinova Center, Dr. Jill Blakeway, “Bone broth is a source of minerals that are often missing from modern diets. A rich bone broth contains calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and other trace minerals, all in a form that is easy to digest and assimilate. The long cooking time breaks down cartilage and tendons releasing the very same compounds that are found in expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain.”

It’s an immune-boosting beverage that can ward off colds and even help you recover from more serious illnesses. James Beard Award-Winning Chef and founder of Brodo, Marco Canora, says that bone broth completely transformed his health. “High quality, scratch-made bone broth restored my gut lining and utterly saved my life,” he recently told rē•spin. “Real, whole bone broth like Brodo contains nutrients that you just can’t find anywhere else. It contains natural healing properties to help improve digestion, strengthen joints and absorb protein. Bone broth packs natural collagen to improve hair, skin, and nails. Plus, glycine to improve brain health and sleep cycles.”

But, despite all the amazing health benefits it’s sometimes said that bone broth doesn’t taste good enough to sip on its own. If you haven’t jumped on the bone broth bandwagon, let us help you rē•spin the way you think about this popular drink. You can now enjoy the nourishing benefits of this medicinal broth as a powder added to your morning smoothie, or even add a bouillon cube to the dairy-free recipe below. And don’t worry, if sipping on a warm cup of bone broth is up your alley, we’ve rounded up the best tasting, high-quality brews you can buy.

BRODO: The Best Traditional Bone Broth

Brodo was founded by Chef Marco Canora in 2014. What began as a small take-out window for bone broth in NYC has turned into one of the most popular brands to buy frozen bone broth from online. According to Chef Canora, “Brodo takes bone broth back to its rootswith a simple combination of time and real ingredients like meaty grass-fed bones and organic whole cut vegetables. The result is a tastier, more nutritious broth akin to what your grandma used to make.” We recommend trying their Signature Hearth Bone Broth made from a blend of turkey, chicken, and beef.

EPIC Provisions: The Most Unique Bone Broth Flavor

Epic Provisions was created by founders Katie and Taylor who turned to bone broth after developing gastrointestinal issues from years of following a strictly vegetarian diet. They only use bones from grass-fed animals and have some of the most unique flavors of bone broth on the market. Their Turkey Cranberry Sage Bone Broth tastes like a delicious Thanksgiving dinner in a bottle.

Dr.Kellyann’s Bone Broth: The Best Powdered Bone Broth

Dr.Kellyann is a naturopathic physician and certified nutrition consultant with over 20 years of experience. She uses bone broth as the core of her practice and has come up with an innovative powdered bone broth for anyone who shies away from the traditional bone broth flavor.

Bonafide Provisions: The Best Bone Broth to Cook With

Bonafide Provisions was founded by mom and Clinical Nutritionist, Sharon Brown, who uses bone broth as the cornerstone of her nutritional practice. The broth is lighter in flavor than other brands but made with nourishing, organic animal bones, and is perfect for adding to a St.Patty’s Day feast. We recommend using their organic chicken bone broth for the recipe below.

  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 16 oz frozen spinach, thawed & drained
  • 1 can artichoke hearts, drained & diced
  • sea salt and black pepper, to taste

Directions:

  1. Soak cashews in boiling water for 2 hours.
  2. Drain and rinse well with cold water. Let drain thoroughly.
  3. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit and adjust the oven rack to the top third of the oven.
  4. Add the cashews, mayonnaise, and bone broth to a food processor. Process for at least 1 minute, scraping down the sides if necessary until everything looks creamy.
  5. Transfer this mixture into a large mixing bowl. Add the rest of the ingredients and stir everything together very well.
  6. Transfer the dip to a baking dish and bake for 20-25 minutes until it has set on top.
