Andrea Somer is a personal trainer, health coach, meditation teacher, and spiritual life coach whose mission is rooted in transforming the body, mind, and spirit. Andrea discovered her passion for fitness seven years ago after a trip to Australia. Shortly after her return, she faced several health issues that dramatically changed her lifestyle which led her to develop a nutrition plan and transforming her diet and fitness. This led her to become a certified personal trainer, who has continued to inspire and empower people to grow into the healthier, happiest versions of themselves the same way she did.

When did you decide that you wanted to be a PT?
About 4 years ago when more and more people started to ask me about my workout routine. Fitness had been a big part of my life for the past decade, but making it into a career just seemed too good to be true. Then I started seeing the big demand for it in LA and once I started educating myself, I knew I had found the right path in my life.
What advice would you give someone just discovering fitness?
It’s important to ask a lot of questions. Surround yourself with people that inspire you and that you want to learn from and prepare to work hard for what you love. We are all guilty of doing this, but try to not compare ourselves to others and their journeys.
What is your training philosophy?
My training philosophy is body, mind, and spirit. I train for strength and empowerment in all three. It is about challenging myself and my clients so that we can become as strong and versatile as possible, both physically and mentally. It is about celebrating our strengths, recognizing our weaknesses, and pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. That is how we get better and grow.
First thing you do when you wake up?
I stay in bed and I meditate for about 10 minutes. I focus on my breath and think about what I am grateful for in life. A lot of the time, I stay away from social media and emails for the first hour, but that is still a challenge for me so I am working on it. We all should truly check in with ourselves before checking on the outside world and the things that interrupt our inner peace.
What does your pre/post-workout meal consist of?
My pre-workout meals depend on if I go straight to the gym early morning – then I usually just have a banana followed by a post-workout shake within 30 minutes. After, I’ll have a bigger meal when I get home. I love brunch so I usually make eggs and avocado toast or banana protein pancakes.
What are you hoping people will get out of your RESPIN workouts?
I am hoping that they will get a full RESPIN of “body, mind & spirit.” My workouts will have movements that allow them to get to know their bodies better, along with meditation and breathwork for the mind and spirit. Everything is connected.
How do you feel you’ve rē•spun your life?
My biggest shift was 3 years ago. I started my career as a personal trainer and one month later, my dad died. I went through all the changes possible in life and came out as a completely different person. My mindset had to completely change to manage the grief, the challenges, and to transform into the stronger, more insightful woman I am today. Meditation is also something that changed my life for the better and has helped me in so many ways.
